St John’s wort: This herb is found to be helpful in
treating depression and can be used for long periods of time.
However, it has a few side effects, i.e. some women found that
it makes their skin oversensitive to sun. In some cases it also
interferes with anti-depressant medication.
Ginseng: This herb is mostly used as a relaxant and
anti-depressant. It has little effects on hot flushes, but it
does relieve to a great extent depression and anxiety
bouts.
Valerian roots: This is a good relaxant and sleep
inducer – exceptional for menopause insomnia. However, since it
has some bad side effects such as delirium and withdrawal
symptoms similar to drugs, it has not been recommended for
use.
These are only a few of the immense list of the herbal remedy
for menopause, and everyday more and more are joining the list.
