Recuperating Basics for Mamas Post
C-Section
C-sections are a major surgery and recuperating from a major
surgery can be difficult. Therefore this article will try to
provide you with several strategies and basic tips you can use
to feel better and regain your old strength in no time.
For most women, one of the biggest questions is probably how
long it will take for them to recover. This question as a
matter of fact has no one right or wrong answer. It greatly
depends on the women. Some women heal faster and also feel less
pain than others. Some women are back to there normal self
within a few weeks, while others take a lot longer. But there
are definitely a lot of things that can speed up your recovery
and help you get better quickly.
One of the most important tip for women that have a c-section
is that they need to get moving quickly. Moving in this sense
means as soon after your C-section, when the nurse or your
doctor allows you to get up and walking, go. Walk slowly to the
nursery and back. You might think this little bit of moving
cannot really do anything, but getting your muscles back and
used to moving and talking that walk actually promotes faster
healing.
But with all this said, keep in mind you just had a surgery and
therefore do not overdo it. Take it easy, take it step by step
and those steps actually are baby step. Especially when after
the hospital stay, you come home and think you need the house
cleaned and need to take care of everybody.
Take it easy, let everybody else pamper you. For women with
C-section, it is often times even more important to get
pampered than for a normal birth mom. It is very important that
you have major help within the first two to three weeks of your
surgery. Know that you have had a major abdominal surgery and
therefore lots of moving and going up and down the stairs might
be very hard. Some doctors will even tell you that for the
first two weeks you should not attempt any stairs at all.
Therefore a bed and everything else on one level is what should
be prepared if you know that you are having a c-section. Just
like before the birth, it is also important not lift heavy
objects since lifting greatly uses the help of abdominal
muscles.
Some women might even hire a postpartum doula. A postpartum
doula will be able to help you with your baby and any pains and
other worries you might have. Postpartum doulas are used by a
wide variety of different moms, for example also by moms that
are having postpartum depression but did not have a
c-section.
You also need to know that you will have bleeding after the
birth even though you did not have vaginal birth. The bleeding
is the shrinking and cleaning of your uterus area and is called
lochia. Lochia will most likely stay for 3-4 weeks and can be
very heavy in the beginning. Should you be concerned about your
bleeding being way to heavy, discuss your symptoms with your
physician.
Exercise is also one important fact for recovering and
recuperating after a C-section. When the doctor allows you to
start mild exercises, go ahead and take the opportunity. As a
matter of fact, when your bleeding has stopped, swimming is one
of the best forms for you to get back to your old shape.
As a last and fairly important tip for you on your way to
recovery, if you feel sad, have to cry, feel pain or have any
other trouble, discuss them with friends, family and doctors,
do not hesitate, get all the help you need. This is a time
family and friends should be there for you and do not feel
ashamed to take up their offers and use their help whenever
possible.
