in people that have AIDS, cancer or have experienced an organ
transplant.
Candida Albicans is present in the mouth and gastrointestinal
tract. It is a fungus that most human have in their bodies
without any complications. The way that this fungus turns into
a yeast infection is that it interacts in a different way with
the vagina. This can be caused by a change in the PH balance of
the vagina. There are many different things that can alter the
environment inside of the body. Everything from using a soap
that is irritating to taking a regiment of antibiotics could
bring on a yeast infection.
Candida albicans turns into a multi-cellular filamentous form
of that begins to invade the environment. Candida albicans
genome is interesting because it has numeric and structural
chromosomal restructuring that allows it to mutate or change
into other forms of the fungus. This is an adaptive strategy
that sets Candida albicans in a class of it’s own when it comes
to funguses.
