Weight Gain in Women: Unusual Conditions That
Can Cause It
Weight gain in women can have very normal causes, but can also
be driven by very unusual conditions. Conditions that might be
part of your every day life and you might not even be aware of.
In general, for many, weight gain comes from eating too many
calories, indulging in fat and fast foods and then on the other
hand not exercising. Most like to sit on the couch right after
dinner, relax, watch TV and nibble on some more unhealthy
foods.
But there are also other conditions; some of these are health
related problems while others are environment related problems.
Health problems that have been greatly associated with weight
gain in women are thyroid problems, hormone levels, diabetes
and menopause. These conditions are only responsible for weight
gain in women in a small percentage of overweight women. Most
women’s weight gain is caused by other problems. Diabetes is
basically causing your trouble with insulin and insulin is the
body’s form of using your sugar intake. Many diabetes sufferers
need to constantly eat to keep their insulin levels at a
certain level.
Hormonal problems and thyroid problems also cause weight gain
and some of these problems can actually be taken care of
through medication or surgery.
The weight gain in women after and during menopause is not so
much related to just the menopause. Some parts are caused by
the hormone level changes in the female body during menopause
and the bodies slowing down metabolism, but also to depression
about age, not being able to have any more children and the
plain feeling old.
At this point in life, many factors caused by society and a
person’s environment can be a reason for a women’s weight gain.
Even in younger years, such factors can be an unusual condition
for weight gain. Many women gain weight just because they are
stressed or bored. No time for proper healthy food, makes women
eat an unhealthy, not balanced diet full of high calorie
snacks, fast food and candy. Many mothers with jobs can report
how often they have had cookies for breakfast just because it
was the fastest most convenient thing available.
This section also includes working conditions. For some women,
the stress or the way other people treat her at work can be a
big source of weight gain. Coping with issues at work,
stressful deadlines often make women grab a piece of chocolate
or start eating just because it makes them feel better.
Another big cause of either weight gain or weight loss in a
women’s life can be depression. Eating when depressed is what
many women say helps them to cope, helps them to feel better
and happier until the point that hey realize that it made them
gain all this weight. Chocolate and several other foods high in
calorie are high in sugar and a few other chemicals that make
the body react with happiness and feel good reactions right
after eating them.
Nevertheless what the cause is, weight can is not healthy for
the body if it exceeds a certain range considered normal
weight. The human body needs some fat to keep running and needs
proper nutrition to survive. A healthy well balanced diet can
make the difference between normal weight and over or
underweight and also the difference between happy, well-rounded
person and unhealthy, maybe even depressed person. Also
important for a healthy weight and reducing that weight gain is
exercise. Physicians, dieticians and researchers can tell you
just how important staying fit and active, as well as a
balanced diet is for the aging human
body.
